I've posted Part One of a new three-part tale on my almost-weekly podcast: Welcome to my Bedroom Closet. Here's the basics.
Mysterious deaths. A stolen brooch. A woman tormented by sorcery. A seemingly harmless Russian fairy tale. Add them together, sprinkle in a bit of Paris and the result becomes "An Incomprehensible Force," a short story and fantasy.
Part one of "An Incomprehensible Force" (approximately 23 minutes long) is now available for free on iTunes. (Search iTunes on "Laurel Anne Hill.") Or you may go to my audioblog at http://laurelannehill.libsyn.com. For more information about me or my award-winning novel, "Heroes Arise," please visit my website at http://www.laurelannehill.com.
Happy Halloween! Well, almost. Are you ready to enter my bedroom closet?
This week, my podcast (Welcome to my Bedroom Closet) consists mainly of a reading adapted from Chapter 16 of my award-winning novel, "Heroes Arise." Chapter 16 introduces my twelve-legged, elongated "spiders" who have an IQ and an attitude. Oh, and I included some cool sound effects in my podcast as well.
I won't be doing a podcast on November 1, due to the World Fantasy Convention where I'll serve as a panelist.
To listen to my most recent episode of "Welcome to my Bedroom Closet," go to http://laurelannehill.libsyn.com, or search for "Laurel Anne Hill" in iTunes.
Warm wishes and have a safe Halloween,
Laurel
For those of you attending World Fantasy Con in San Jose (October 29 - November 1), I'll be part of the panel on "Writing Human Characters, Whether or Not They're Human." Hope to see you there. Here is the panel description.
10:00 AM Gold Room: Writing Human Characters, Whether or Not They’re Human Panelists will discuss the challenges of writing relatable non-human characters in heroic and mythic fantasy that are both alien enough to be something more than funny-looking people but also human enough for readers to relate to.
David B Coe (moderator), Kate Elliott, Kay Kenyon, Shauna Roberts, Laurel Anne Hill.
Warm wishes,
Laurel Anne Hill (http://www.laurelannehill.com)
Happy almost Halloween. If you're a fan of creepy stories, be sure to listen to Emerian Rich's "Wicked Women Writer's Challenge," recorded on "Horror Addicts" on October 11. I served as a guest judge for the contest and offered my comments on Emerian's podcast. The link to "Horror Addicts" is as follows: http://www.horroraddicts.net/.

I've now posted the first of my two "Halloween" podcasts for 2009, complete with spooky music: "Ghost of a Mushroom." The podcast lasts approximately six minutes and relates the weird things I saw in the middle of the night last October. "Ghost of a Mushroom" is a true story.
To listen to "Ghost of a Mushroom," go to http://laurelannehill.libsyn.com or search on "Laurel Anne Hill" in iTunes.
Warm wishes and Happy Halloween,
Laurel Anne Hill (author of "Heroes Arise")

Yesterday, I posted my latest podcast on Welcome to My Bedroom Closet, http://www.laurelannehill.libsyn.com.
This 7-1/2 minute offering describes some of the techniques I used to improve my writing between 1997 and 2005. I compare my two vampire coming of age stories ("Eternal Poetry" and "Real Vampires Don't Snore") to give examples. I wrote "Real Vampires Don't Snore" in 1997 and "Eternal Poetry" in 2005.
You can also subscribe to my podcasts for free on iTunes. Search on "Laurel Anne Hill." And please visit my website at http://www.laurelannehill.com
Great news! My award-winning science fiction/fantasy novel, "Heroes Arise," is now available via Kindle Books. The link is as follows: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=node%3D154606011&field-keywords=Heroes+Arise%2C+Laurel+Anne+Hill&x=19&y=18. The current price is $5.95. What a deal.

I've now posted my award-winning short story, "Real Vampires Don't Snore" to my podcast site: www.laurelannehill.libsyn.com. "Calliope Magazine" first published "Real Vampires Don't Snore" in 1997 and recently re-released the story due to popular demand. My sense of humor itched when I wrote "Real Vampires Don't Snore." Being a mother of a teen, I had to scratch that itch and laugh.
Please note that my next podcast episode will feature my comparison of my two vampire coming of age stories (both humorous), "Eternal Poetry" and "Real Vampires Don't Snore." I'll also relate how and why my writing changed between 1997 and 2005.
If you like my podcast, please subscribe free via iTunes. And don't forget to check out my website, including information about my award-winning novel, "Heroes Arise." Go to http://www.laurelannehill.com.
Okay, everyone, I've now posted the concluding half of "Eternal Poetry" on my podcast site (www.laurelannehill.libsyn.com), also available for free on iTunes. "Eternal Poetry" is a vampire romance and coming of age tale, published by "Nth Zine (Online Exclusives)" in 2005. Next week I plan to record "Real Vampires Don't Snore," published a number of years ago by "Calliope" and again last year due to popular request.
Both "Eternal Poetry" and "Real Vampires Don't Snore" look at romance and family relationships from a young, supernatural woman's point of view. My vampires don't sparkle in the sun or play baseball during thunder storms. They break the vampire stereotypes in their own ways.
In October, I plan to compare the writing of "Eternal Poetry" and "Real Vampires Don't Snore." I'll discuss the writing techniques I use now versus the ones I used 10-12 years ago.
